Etiquette Tip of the Week: Respecting Your Betters

While giving a talk to a mostly male audience of about 80 people over 80 years-old, I was surprised to find that their biggest etiquette pet peeve was not the rude use of cell phone and texting.  They were most irritated by young men who enter restaurants without removing their hats.  (They were referring to baseball caps, but it could be any hat.)

Going from Networking to networking

As we've begun the latest rounds of LCS Orientation for the 1Ls and Transfer Students, we're talking a lot about networking (little n).  One of the things you'll hear us talk about is how networking is friendship building and strategic relationship building.  When networking, it is certainly quality over quantity -- you'll want a strong, broad network that knows you well and is interested in investing time and energy in you because you've already spent time and energy in building and maintaining those relationships. More savvy advice about networking is discussed in this blog, so check out the networking label for more ideas on not only how to, but also where to, network.  Bitter Lawyer also shared this advice recently as well.
